Menton
Situated between Monaco and Italy, the Menton Riviera embraces history, beauty and grandeur in its citrus-scented air. Sheer mountains scraping the soaring skies plunge freely to the sea, gazing warmly over the coasts they connect and protect in their crescent cradle. Such breathtaking backdrop earned the grand old city of Menton, in the 19th century, the title "The Pearl of France".
Its exceptional sunshine and rich microclimate promote luxurious vegetation and the ready cultivation of gorgeous fruits: oranges, grapefruits, tangerines and especially lemons; the beautiful Mediterranean's city precious emblem to which it pays tribute with the magnificent three-week–long "Lemon Festival" which draws thousands of tourists each February. Also called the "City of flowers", Menton delights the senses and enlivens the soul with beautiful gardens, including "La Serre de la Madone", ranked a historical monument in 1990, and the citrus grove Carnolès Palace, the largest collection of citruses in Europe today. The hinterland of Menton is composed of picturesque perched villages like St. Agnes, considered one of the most beautiful places anywhere in France, and the highest coastal village in Europe. Menton is also an established city of art and history.
The city hosts the largest collection of works of multi-faceted avante-garde artist Jean Cocteau, while the parvise of the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel becomes the gathering place of music lovers and musicians from around the world each August, and along with the Chapel of the Conception boasts some of the most stunning Baroque architecture in the region.
Menton, sparkling coastal gem, home of art and history, flagship resort of the Côte d'Azur, welcomes you with generosity and softness into its resplendent light. Bienvenue.
